St Paul's Cathedral: is the dome climb worth it?

528 steps to the Golden Gallery, free tours you can only book at a desk inside, and a free rooftop view of the dome across the road.

Visitor information checked 14 October 2026 · prices and hours change

The video gives you the verdict and the viewpoints in under five minutes. This page has the numbers that change — prices, hours, rules — and the map pins.

Worth it? Yes, if you're going to climb — the view from the Golden Gallery is what you're paying for. Go Monday to Saturday, start at the Guiding Desk, and give it about two and a half hours.

If stairs or heights rule you out, the ticket is harder to justify. Go to Evensong for the building and the choir, and get your view free from the One New Change roof terrace across the road.
